Biography

One aspect of developing an effective and organized portfolio that can be a bit overwhelming for many visual artists is the writing. I can’t say how many times I have heard artists protest this portion of their portfolio with the simple argument, “I am a painter, not a writer”. Though this is a valid point, it doesn’t change the fact that solid writing is a vital component to a good portfolio. The writing for a visual artist’s portfolio will vary from artist to artist depending on many factors including exhibition and other experience, as well as the content of their portfolio and motivation for the presentation of their work. Though each artist will have their own specific direction with regards to their writing, some basic structures can be fairly similar. Some of the writing assistance provided by the Studio is in the form of consultation. For those artists who would prefer to hire a writer, that service is available as well.
